Village of Verrayes, Aosta Valley

Village of Verrayes

The Commune of Verrayes includes about 60 hamlets and it extends on a morainic bench, which from the Dora Baltea River reaches the Becca d'Aver at 2469 m a.s.l., with a difference in level of 1973 m and a slope of 26%.

Accessible from Torgnon through the Saint-Pantaléon Col, Verrayes was inhabited since the First Iron Age, in fact there are some rare archaeological remains that bear witness of that. During the Roman domination two copper mines were exploited at Vencorère. The village, rich of history and culture, during the Middle Ages was ruled by the Family of Cly. It was economically linked to the centres of Valtournenche and Saint-Barthélemy where there were the alpine pastures frequented by the shepherds in summer.

The mildness of the climate, the sunny position, the woods rich of flora and fauna and the well equipped picnic area in Champlong let your excursions be pleasant and charming.

For those who want to try the thrills of paragliding from the "Becca d'Aver", there is a landing field at their disposal. In the new sports centre of Rapy, in the charming plain just above the village of Verrayes, you can find a track, specially created for rollerskiing, which is the only one of its kind in Italy. Here you can also discover the "tsan" and the "palet", the traditional games of our Region.
